未来型卓越プログラム生のAhmad Faiz Ibadurrahmanさんが、12月3－4日に早稲田大学で開催された「PADERO Workshop2019」に参加して、グループ発表で3位に入賞しました。

I participated in the 1st German-Japanese Hackathon, Participatory Design in Robotics for Elderly Care in Germany & Japan (PADERO) Project on 3rd ~ 4th December in Waseda University. This is the first hackathon event held by a consortium of universities from Germany, Italy, and Japan including Tohoku University and IDAC. I was invited by Professor Dalila Burin from IDAC and went to the event with the other five Tohoku University students. The event aim was to generate ideas for elderly care using a humanoid robot called “The Pepper” and a Virtual Reality (VR) technology. The first day was for idea discussion and brush-up while the second day was for idea presentation in front of the juries. After a whole day discussion and brush up, my team came up with an idea of VR module to help elderly people with a wheelchair to train their upper body physically, while at the same time train their cognitive brain function. Although the prototype we made still far from a complete product considering that we only have a mere two days to make it, the juries gave us many positive feedbacks that encourage us to do more in the future. In the end, the juries presented our idea with the 3rd prize. Other than the experience of hackathon itself, I am glad that I can make many new acquaintances including the students and the faculties from other universities.
